Wooster Takes Part in "Hour of Power" Relay for Sarcoma Research

The Wooster swim teams did their part in an "Hour of Power" relay to help raise awareness and money for sarcoma research.

On Nov. 10, The College of Wooster's men's and women's swimming and diving teams joined nearly 8,000 student-athletes from approximately 150 other collegiate, high school, and club teams across the nation in the 10th annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay for Sarcoma Research.

The "Hour of Power" event honors those who are fighting or have succumbed to cancer, including former Carleton College swimmer Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who died from synovial sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in Sept. 2006. The annual swim relay, which now includes dryland teams as well, has grown exponentially from 15 teams in its first year.

Participating teams engage in an all-out 60-minute relay of any stroke, a challenging workout that fuels team spirit and fosters cooperation among team members.

In the event's first nine years, participating teams have raised over $550,000 to support research at the University of Chicago into the causes and treatment of sarcoma.
