CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District® Release

Recent graduate Ryan Campbell of The College of Wooster men's swimming and diving team was voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday. Campbell will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.

In the water, Campbell book-ended his senior swims at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships with all-conference honors this past February. In the meet's finale, Campbell swam leg two of Wooster's third-place 400 freestyle relay, which broke the program's record and posted a NCAA Div. III "B" cut time of 3:03.21. Earlier at the championships, Campbell anchored the Scots' third-place 800 freestyle relay, which clocked in at 6:51.98.

Wooster's 1,013 points at the 2019 NCAC Championships marked the highest total in program history, while Campbell was a key part of the Scots' fourth-place showing in 2017, in what went in the books as the Black and Gold's first top-four NCAC finish in a decade.

Campbell's work out of the water is even more impressive, as the biochemistry and molecular biology alumnus carried a 3.88 GPA into his final semester. The academic superstar studied the determinants of substrate binding by the enzyme nicC for mechanistic elecidation for his independent study. He worked as a research assistant with the College's chemistry department and co-authored an article published in Biochemistry.

Campbell landed a pair of impressive summer research internships during his studies, first at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and then at the University of Pittsburgh.

Within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio), just 13 student-athletes were honored by CoSIDA, with Campbell being one of six from within the NCAC and one of eight who competed in swimming or diving.
