Scots Win 16 Events in Tri-Meet with Mount Union, Thomas More

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster swimming and diving team went 3-1 on Saturday, with the women's team keeping its unbeaten record intact with 206-72 and 215-26 victories over the University of Mount Union and Thomas More University, respectively. Wooster's men beat Thomas More 236-23 and fell 202-89 to Mount Union.

Junior Anne Bowers and sophomore Molly Likins headlined Wooster's women's team, which posted 12 wins on the day, including five events where Scots had the top three times, or better. Bowers and Likins opened the day on Wooster's winning 200 medley relay, which touched at 1:52.54, and the duo capped the meet by swimming the first two legs of the Scots' 200 freestyle relay, which logged a 1:43.02, the top time in the field by over 1.5 seconds. Junior Brooke Brown was one both relays, with junior Hannah Langer swimming the backstroke leg on the medley relay and first-year Carol Maag rounding out the freestyle quartet. Individually, Bowers' 1:00.68 was the top time in the 100 butterfly, as was Likins' 1:07.50 in the 100 breaststroke.

Brown rounded out the triple winners on the day. She had a 25.86 in the 50 freestyle.

Junior Madison Whitman won the 200 breaststroke (2:33.96) and the 200 individual medley (2:17.14). Whitman had a strong supporting cast in the 200 individual medley, where first-year Veda Massanari-Thatcher (2:21.66), Langer (2:21.91), and senior Alison Hsu (2:22.59) were the next three finishers. In the 200 backstroke, Langer's winning time of 2:15.33 was followed by sophomore Mia Chen's 2:16.88, senior Sarah Stutler's 2:23.44, and junior Paige Sogandares' 2:28.92.

Chen delivered a winning effort of 1:01.96 in the 100 backstroke, while in the 100 freestyle, junior Lexi Riley-DiPaolo was first to the finish at 55.50. Wooster had the top three finishers in both of those events.

Senior Nell Kacmarek won the 1,000 freestyle in 11:12.15, while first-year Kay Wetmore rounded out the winners in the 200 butterfly (2:15.31).

Junior Josh Gluck was one of the bright spots on the men's side. He won the 100 (53.98) and 200 backstrokes (1:58.51). Sophomore Eric Jacques swept the first-place points in the diving well. He had 233.10 points on the one-meter board, and 223.06 points on the three-meter board.

The Scots tallied three runner-up finishes on the day. Junior Wyatt Foss, Gluck, junior Craig Klumpp, and senior Trey Schopen posted the runner-up time of 1:40.59 in the 200 medley relay. Gluck's 2:01.42 was the second-place time in the 200 individual medley, as was Schopen's 53.37 in the 100 butterfly.

Wooster's back in action on December 5 for the first day of the program's annual three-day Wooster Invitational.
