Welcome back to the Scot Rewind, where WoosterAthletics.com is taking a look back at a big win, a monster individual performance, or a significant milestone corresponding with each week of the 2020-2021 academic year. Last week, we looked at one of The College of Wooster's men's swimming team's top finishes at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. This week, we turn our focus to the women's team, which placed second at the 1986 NCAC Championships, and went on to finish fifth at the NCAA Div. III Championships. Here's the recap from the NCAC Championships, plus some of the Scots' highlights from the NCAA Div. III Championships.

Wooster's women's swimming and diving team turned in its best performance of the year and slipped by Allegheny College in the process to finish second at the NCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which ended February 22. It was the best finish ever for the Fighting Scots, who rolled up 646 points. Kenyon College successfully defended its title and overwhelmed the rest of the field with 1,235 points. Allegheny finished third with 596 points followed by Denison University (430), Ohio Wesleyan University (272), Oberlin College (170), and Case Western Reserve University (154).

Wooster's Sarah Frost set three team records and qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in two events. The talented first-year qualified for nationals and set team records in the 200 individual medley (2:16.51) and the 400 individual medley (4:48.37). She also set a record and just missed qualifying for nationals in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.10 and was a member of the record-setting 800 freestyle relay, which qualified for nationals with a time of 8:06.65.

Brooke Henderson, who had already qualified for nationals in two events, also qualified in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.96. Henderson missed qualifying in the 100 breaststroke by .03.

Wooster's 400 freestyle relay, which consisted of Kris Baumann, Amy Thayer, Kay Schwerzler, and Henderson, qualified for nationals and set a team record in the process with a time of 3:43.65. The Scots' 200 freestyle relay, which included Baumann, Henderson, Schwerzler, and Jill McLaughlin, improved its qualifying time and set a team record when it finished in 1:41.49.

"It was an incredible performance for our women," said jubilant Wooster coach Keith Beckett. "We tapered just right."

"In additional to the record setters and national qualifiers, just about everyone turned in her personal best performance, which enabled us to finish second," he added.

At the Div. III Championships, Wooster accumulated 166 points, which led to the program's highest-ever finish. Frost placed fifth and sixth in the 400 individual medley (4:45.23) and 200 individual medley (2:13.53), respectively, while Henderson had top-10 showings in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.81, fifth) and 50 freestyle (25.01, ninth). Baumann's 25.25 in the 50 freestyle was good for 15th-place.

In relays, Jennifer Kellam, Lori Todorich, Henderson, and Baumann were fifth in the 200 medley (1:52.68) and sixth in the 400 medley (4:08.50), while Henderson, Baumann, Thayer, and Schwerzler hit the wall in seventh-place with a time of 3:41.01 in the 400 freestyle. In the 800 freestyle relay, Henderson, Thayer, Baumann, and Frost placed seventh at 8:03.20, while Baumann, Schwerzler, Kathy Gray, and Henderson had the 11th-place time of 1:42.05 in the 200 freestyle relay.
