Senior Salute: Leah Jorn

Leah Jorn sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Leah Jorn, an environmental studies major from Shorewood, Wisconsin. Jorn is a member of the swimming and diving team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I loved how Wooster focused on doing undergraduate research. I felt Wooster is where I would get the best education out of my top choices of colleges.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being able to excel in the pool and academically.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are making really close friends on the team, being able to do something I love with those people every day, and going to Florida for our yearly training trip.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is the meaningful friendships.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I'm involved with Worthy Questions, a program sponsored by Religious & Spiritual Life at Wooster.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Iemanja Brown has had the greatest impact because her classes have pushed me to question the way I think about ecology and environmentalism, mainly that these ideas are subject to an individual's perspective and many other factors.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My Worthy Questions mentor, Rhonda, has been largely impactful on my Wooster experience. She is incredibly supportive and has always shown me love.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My I.S. looks at the impact of wording environmental policy in a way that garners support from across partisan lines. A separate part of my I.S. looks at farmers' attitudes about soil in Northeastern Ohio.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I did a semester abroad the fall of my junior year. I went to Thailand for four months and traveled all around the country. We backpacked through the rainforest, camped on islands, and stayed with many host families. I would highly recommend every student study abroad if possible.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Enjoy every last second!
