Senior Salute: Kam Knowlton

Kam Knowlton sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Kam Knowlton, a chemistry major from Girard, Pennsylvania. Knowlton is a member of the swimming & diving team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster because of its excellent chemistry department.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: To me, it means being an independent mind inspired by my teammates and guided to achieve greater things than I could alone.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories include any instance of the collective swimming & diving team's ridiculous conversation at the swim table.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is having a lot of friends I see daily.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I did some volunteer work and I help students as a lab assistant.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: It's not fair to only consider one Wooster faculty member, but for my recent semesters, Dr. (Lilliana) Morris has been a great advisor and has helped me find the research I'd like to continue doing.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Rob Harrington set the work for me to feel that I must stay in athletics. Drs. (Jennifer) Faust, (Paul) Bonvallet, (Karl) Feierabend, and (Rebecca) Craig helped me continue my chemistry degree through abundant consideration and extensive mentoring.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I'm working to find the optimal conditions using a multimetallic catalyst to synthesis a plant-based biodegradable super absorbent polymer that will replace traditional absorbents in products such as diapers.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: During winter break, the swimming and diving team travels to Florida. It was a great time during these trips to get closer to teammates, spend more time together, and learn more about them in a relaxing environment.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would say try harder and cherish the bowling alley.
