Wooster Women Knock Off Cleveland State in Season Opener

Emma Connors College of Wooster Swimming & Diving CLEVELAND, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team knocked off Cleveland State University, while the men finished second at the season-opening Viking Relay Challenge on Saturday morning.

Senior Molly Likins, first-year Hallie Findlan, senior Mia Chen, and sophomore Emma Connors scored Wooster's first win of the meet in the 500 freestyle relay. Wooster's 4:52.44 was almost two seconds faster than Cleveland State's 4:54.02. That relay consisted of a 50-, 100-, 150-, and 200-yard leg.

Connors earned triple-winner honors on the day. She led off Wooster's winning 3x500 freestyle relay, with junior Kay Wetmore and first-year Ollie Bream rounding out the Scots' 16:30.61. Later, Findlan, sophomore Maddie Becker, Connors, and Likins' 1:41.51 beat out Cleveland State's 1:43.09 in the traditional 200 freestyle relay.

Bream, senior Madison Whitman, first-year Mariam Zayour, and Becker went 4:25.65 in the 400 individual medley relay. That quartet rounded out the top-two finishes on the women's side.

Wooster checked in with 92 points to Cleveland State's 90. Notre Dame College rounded out the field with 66 points.

Wooster's men logged a quartet of third-place efforts. Senior Sam Muse, junior Doak Schultz, first-year Tucker Andrewjeski, and junior Noah Golovan went 1:56.99 in the 200 breaststroke relay. The quartet of first-years Zach Fickes, Ryan Gross, and Isaac Shaker, plus sophomore Josh Pearson went 4:22.61 in the 500 freestyle relay that featured legs of 50-yard increments. Schultz, first-year Max Likins, first-year Damien Donado, and Pearson teamed up for a 1:38.54 in the 200 butterfly relay, and Shaker, Andrewjeski, and Pearson went 15:10.51 in the 3x500 freestyle relay.

Cleveland State ran away on the men's side with 112 points. Wooster had 74, while Notre Dame tallied 70.
