Scots Win Four More Events, Take Men's Lead at Wooster Invite

Ollie Bream College of Wooster Swimming & Diving WOOSTER, Ohio – First-year Ollie Bream and sophomore Josh Pearson won their second event of the Wooster Invitational, while the Fighting Scots' swimming and diving team won two other events on Friday evening at Ellen Shapiro Natatorium. The College of Wooster climbed to first on the men's side with 1,116.5 points, while the women remain in second with 938 points.

Bream breezed through the 400 individual medley, posting the top seed in Friday morning's prelims session at 4:40.30, and in doing so, cracked the program's top-10 performers' list. In finals, Bream went 4:39.53, well faster than runner-up Mackenzie Schuld's 4:53.01. Pearson's 400 individual medley was more closely contested, yet he still won comfortably at 4:07.80, nearly three seconds faster than University of Mount Union's Nathan Williams, who had the runner-up time of 4:10.49. First-year Tucker Andrewjeski complemented Pearson nicely with a 4:17.29, which was good for fourth-place in the 400 individual medley.

Wooster's flat-out dominance in the breaststroke resulted in the Scots claiming the top four spots in the women's 100-yard event. Senior Molly Likins led the Wooster quartet with a 1:05.32, with senior Madison Whitman (1:06.36), sophomore Maddie Becker (1:09.01), and first-year Izzy Bellefleur (1:10.06) following suit. Of note, Whitman, who had the fifth-fastest time in program history in the event, moved up to fourth. On the men's side, junior Noah Golovan was rewarded for his collegiate-best 58.58 – the third-fastest time in program history – with a runner-up showing, and junior Doak Schultz had the sixth-place time of 1:00.09.

Pearson, first-year Isaac Shaker, Schultz, and first-year Ryan Gross ended Friday's session in style with the winning time of 7:04.74 in the 800 freestyle relay. The Scots posted the best time by nearly six seconds.

Wooster repeated with a runner-up finish in Friday night's opening event. There, junior Min Kim, Likins, Bream, and first-year Hallie Findlan went 1:47.33. Wooster's men matched the women's placement, with first-year Damien Donado, Golovan, Pearson, and Schultz teaming up for a 1:34.51. Senior Mia Chen, Whitman, first-year Mariam Zayour, and sophomore Emma Connors capped Friday's women's events with the runner-up mark of 8:09.19 in the 800 freestyle relay.

Gross nearly chased down Mount Union's Jason Tondra over the final 25 yards of the 200 freestyle, but Tondra was a touch faster at the finish with his 1:44.31 holding off Gross' 1:44.54. Nonetheless, Gross did break into the program's top-10 performers' list with his time now ranking as the seventh-fastest in the event at Wooster. Shaker stopped the clock at 1:47.21, which was fifth in the final. In the women's 200 freestyle, Connors continued the parade of top-three finishes with the third-place time of 2:00.69.

Wooster's depth was evident in the 100 butterfly, especially on the men's side, where three Scots qualified for the championship final. There, Schultz touched at 51.38, which was third. Donado was right behind with the fourth-place time of 52.11 and sophomore Lyonel Fritsch came in at 53.57, which was eighth. On the women's side, junior Kay Wetmore qualified for the championship final and came in fifth, touching at 59.89.

Chen's third-place time of 1:00.89 led the way among the Scots' backstrokers in the 100-yard event, with first-year Hallie Findlan coming in right behind at 1:01.79. In the men's event, first-year Max Likins took sixth (54.97) and junior Graham Letkeman was eighth (56.06).

Senior Eric Jacques scored 360.20 points in the diving well to take fifth on the three-meter board.

Other top-eight relays for the Scots included junior Min Kim, Whitman, Wetmore, and Becker in the 200 medley relay (sixth, 1:54.05), senior Emma Bossaert, Wetmore, junior Alice Markey, and senior Kate Schlegel in the 800 freestyle relay (8:25.42),  Max Likins, senior Sam Muse, first-year Justin DuBois, and first-year Aiden Lentz in the 200 medley relay (eighth, 1:41.06).

Mount Union leads the women's standings with 1,050 points.
