Men Win Wooster Invite for First Time Since 2009

The College of Wooster men's swimming and diving team held on to its first place standing and won the Wooster Invitational for the first time since 2009, while the women swam well on the final day to hold firm in second.

Both teams held true as the men entered Saturday with the lead, while the women entered second. The men totaled 1,843.5 points while the University of Mount Union took second with 1,579.

The Purple Raiders won on the women's side with 1,591 points. The Scots scored 1,517 thanks to a great showing on Saturday where they set a number of top-10 program best times.

Sophomore Maddie Becker broke the 100 IM program record and took first place in the event with a time of 1:00.56. Molly Likins, who held the top spot with a 2020 time of 1:01.29, finished second in 1:01.35.

First-year Mariam Zayour finished third in 1:04.40. She was later fourth in the 200 back in 2:13.66.

First-year Hallie Findlan won the 100 free in 52.22. Her time ranked third best in program history.

First-year Ollie Bream posted the second-best time in program history in the 200 fly and claimed first in the event at 2:05.08, with the time just quicker than the NCAA Div. III "B" cut mark of 2:05.61. Junior Kay Wetmore finished third at 2:15.88.

Senior Madison Whitman and Likins finished one-two in the 200 breast. Whitman swam to a time of 2:22.69, while Likins finished at 2:24.72.

Emma Connors started the night off with a second place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 18:04.92. To cap off the night, the 400 medley relay team of Findlan, Becker, Mia Chen and Likins swam a 3:37.77 for second.

For the men, sophomore Josh Pearson claimed the top spot in the 200 fly. His time of 1:52.43 tied for the second best time in program history.

First-year Isaac Shaker followed in third with a time of 1:56.41, which also was a top-10 time in the program records.

Junior Doak Schultz won the 100 IM in 54.05, and classmate Noah Golovan claimed third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.22. Tucker Andrewjeski swam a 2:13.97 for sixth.

First-year Andre Yazhbin finished fifth in the 1650 free (17:23.74) as did Eric Jacques in 1 meter diving with a score of 366.75.

The men wrapped up the meet with a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay (3:10.57) behind the team of Pearson, Schultz, Shaker and Ryan Gross.

The Scots are off for the rest of December and will return when they host a dual meet against Baldwin Wallace University on Jan. 14.
