Kay Wetmore Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring or senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Kay Wetmore, a communication studies and political science major from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Wetmore is a member of the swimming & diving team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because of the amazing support that both professors and staff provide as well as the supportive and open swim team.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means representing The College of Wooster in the pool and in the classroom. Being a student-athlete has allowed me to connect with other athletes and continue participating in the sport I love.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories at The College of Wooster include every conference meet I have been able to attend and being inducted into the honor societies for both political science and communication studies majors.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part of being a student-athlete is getting to make so many connections on campus with my teammates and other student-athletes as well as getting to continue my passion of swimming.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am the president of the student Communication Club, work as a lifeguard at the Scot Center, and have been a teaching assistant for two courses.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. (Denise) Bostdorffhas made a great impact on my time here at Wooster as both a professor and my advisor. She has always been so helpful in the classroom and a great advisor for all my academic needs.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My coach, Rob Harrington, has always impacted my experience here at Wooster as a great coach and mentor. Coach Harrington has always inspired me to train hard and succeed in the classroom.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at campaign messages from 2022 senatorial candidates John Fetterman (Pennsylvania) and Tim Ryan (Ohio) to explore how these candidates are trying to win back the white working-class. Through a content analysis of their campaign messages, I am exploring the appeals both of the candidates used towards the white working-class electorate.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I shadowed every sitting judge at the Lehigh County Courthouse in Pennsylvania last summer. As a shadow, I was able to explore other departments in the courthouse, including domestic relations and court administration.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would advise my first-year self to get involved early on. I have had such a great time getting to meet new people and explore all aspects of The College of Wooster. I wish I got involved sooner.
