Quartet from Men’s Swimming & Diving Earn CSC Academic All-District® Honors

Tucke Andrewjeski, Ryan Gross, Josh Pearson, Noah Golovan, Wooster swimming CSC Academic All-District Release®

The College of Wooster's Tucke Andrewjeski, Noah Golovan, Ryan Gross, and Josh Pearson were among the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® honorees, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

Andrewjeski was one of many Fighting Scots who factored heavily in the program finishing third at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships for its highest conference finish in two decades. Andrewjeski won the 400 individual medley consolation final at 4:09.09 and had three top-12 swims at conference this year. The sophomore is a one-time NCAC championship final qualifier, with that start coming in the 400 individual medley at the 2022 championships. Andrewjeski holds top-10 program times in three events.

The political science major increased his interest in the field and knowledge of local elections last summer as a volunteer phone bank intern with New Way Forward Strategies. Andrewjeski's long-term goal is to work in the government sector.

Golovan was part of four top-five conference relays as a Scot, with those headlined by fourth-place 200 (1:33.93) and 400 medley relays (3:27.74) at the 2022 NCAC Championships. The two-time NCAC Academic Honor Roll qualifier made his first championship final start at the NCAC Championships this season, and responded with the ninth-place time of 53.84 in the 100 individual medley. Golovan's name appears four times on the program's top-10 list, with the fourth-fastest time of 53.84 in the 100 individual medley headlining the group.

The philosophy and political science major is conducting an ethical evaluation with a content analysis of news coverage of the January 6 Insurrection for the Independent Study project. Golovan was one of two students selected to serve on the search committee which selected Wooster's next president. The senior is heavily involved with student government on campus serving as the Scot Council president for the 2022-23 academic year after spending a term as class representative. As president of the student body, Golovan coordinates and chairs a meeting between members of the Board of Trustees and student body each semester, leads general assembly and executive committee student government meetings, and meets with the College's president and cabinet.

Elsewhere, Golovan spent a semester as a teaching assistant in the political science department, was vice chair of the Wooster College Republicans student organization for three semesters, works in Admissions as a senior intern interviewing and evaluating prospective students, was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and founded and administered a campus-wide intramural swimming league. Off campus, Golovan secured an APEX Fellowship to work as an assistant bailiff at Stow Municipal Court. There, Golovan managed dockets, case flows, and daily courthouse routines, facilitated communication between judges and departments, and filled in for the bailiff on an as-needed basis. Golovan previously was a legal intern at Westfield Insurance Company, a campaign intern for Dave Joyce's Congressional campaign, and a judicial intern at Stow Municipal Court.

Gross was part of Wooster's NCAC third-place-securing 400 freestyle relay, which placed sixth with a time of 3:09.37. Wooster needed to be extra cautious with that quartet, as a disqualification or not staying within striking distance of Wabash College's placement would have cost the Scots the third-place finish. Earlier in the meet, Gross was part of two top-five relays, including Wooster's fourth-place 800 freestyle relay (6:52.14). Gross debuted at conference with All-NCAC honors on Wooster's third-place 800 freestyle relay (6:56.68) as a first-year.

The chemistry major is a laboratory assistant on campus and serves on the student conduct board, hearing allegations of misconduct by members of the College and assessing appropriate responses. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member volunteers for Wooster Memorial Park's annual cleanup and is a lifeguard back home in the summer.

Pearson is one of the top swimmers in the NCAC, evidenced by earning two all-conference honors at NCAA Div. III's preeminent conference meet as a sophomore and qualifying for the championship final in all six career individual conference events. The then-sophomore dove right in with all-conference laurels on Wooster's third-place 800 freestyle relay in 2022, and later, became the first Scot to earn All-NCAC honors in the 400 individual medley, lowering his school record to 4:00.30 and achieving a NCAA Div. III "B" cut in the process. Pearson broke three school records at the 2022 conference championships, and lowered his 200 butterfly record to 1:49.65 at this year's NCAC meet. Pearson has logged NCAA Div. III "B" cuts in the 200 butterfly both times he has competed at conference and has four-career top-four NCAC relay placements. With the conference championships canceled as a first-year, Pearson tore apart the Timken Natatorium record board at the Wooster End of Season Meet. There, Pearson broke the school and Timken Natatorium records in the 400 individual medley with the winning time of 4:03.53 and set new pool benchmarks in the 500 (4:39.67) and 1,650 freestyles (16:23.55). In relays, he helped the Scots break the Timken Natatorium records in the 200 (1:35.79) and 400 medley relays (3:30.75) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:14.33).

The mathematics major spent last summer as an accounting intern with STNL Development. There, Pearson gained experience with daily operations and communication protocols and policies within a corporate setting. Pearson has summer experience as an assistant swimming coach and a lifeguard near his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. On campus, Pearson is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was inducted to the campus chapter of the Pi Mu Epsilon honor society.

Wooster's quartet are on the Academic All-America® ballot, which is voted on by CSC members in advance of the announcement of the Academic All-America® Team on March 21. Starting with the 2022-23 academic year, all eligible nominees submitted by member schools earn Academic All-District® status. Nominees were voted to the Academic All-District® Team in previous years and those winners advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot. This is also the first year swimming and diving is its own Academic All-America® contest. Previously swimming and diving was part of the at-large contest.
