Four Scots Named CSC Academic All-District®

Tucker Andrewjeski, Callum Glover, Josh Pearson, Ryan Gross, Wooster Swimming & Diving CSC Academic All-District® Release

Tucker Andrewjeski, Callum Glover, Ryan Gross, and Josh Pearson from The College of Wooster men's swimming and diving team were among the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honorees as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Andrewjeski broke the program's 8-year-old 200 breaststroke record at the midseason Wooster Invitational. The junior's 2:06.73 in prelims was better than Evan Hagedorn's 2:07.46. Andrewjeski went faster in finals, swimming a 2:06.48. At the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, Andrewjeski lowered the record to 2:05.43 in the championship final. Andrewjeski placed fifth in the conference in what marked a second championship final start. Elsewhere, Andrewjeski was the runner-up in the consolation final of the 400 individual medley (4:12.29) and took 18th in the 200 individual medley (1:57.45) at conference.

The two-time Academic All-District® qualifier spent last summer as a law clerk intern at Consumer Law Center in Maryland. There, Andrewjeski called potential and current clients, drafted intakes, revised legal documents, and assisted in class action lawsuits. Andrewjeski honed skills in the practice areas of state and federal law as it relates to government processes. The political science major worked for New Way Forward Strategies between his first and sophomore years. As a phone bank intern, Andrewjeski gained insight into successful strategies for local government elections.

Glover, one of Wooster's biggest contributors, anchored the program's school-record 400 medley relay, which touched fourth with a time of 3:25.03 at the NCAC Championships. That swim marked one of five top-five showings for Glover at conference. The relay staple anchored the program's fourth-place 800 freestyle relay (6:56.32) and was the leadoff leg of the fifth-place 200 (1:24.06) and 400 freestyle relays (3:08.02). Individually, Glover's 20.68 was the fourth-place time in the 50 freestyle, and he was a championship-final qualifier in the 100 freestyle, taking sixth at 45.55. Glover logged top-three program times in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles this season and posted the fifth-fastest 100 butterfly (50.97) time. He was a NCAC Athlete of the Week following a quadruple-winner showing against Westminster College.

The business economics major spent summer 2022 constructing trails and preparing controlled fires at Philmont Scout Ranch. The Eagle Scout is a summer swimming coach for the Spring Branch Stingrays. He was part of the panel of student-athletes that met with the finalists for the College's athletics director search this past fall.

Gross, a relay staple, joined Glover on the top-five 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays at the NCAC Championships. The junior helped the program's 200 medley relay to the fifth-place time of 1:34.95 at conference. Individually, Gross was 16th in the 500 freestyle (4:48.76), 17th in the 100 freestyle (47.96), and 19th in the 200 freestyle (1:44.75) at Div. III's preeminent conference meet.

The chemistry major is involved with Scot Council, serving as an elected class representative. As part of Scot Council, Gross communicates concerns of the student body to the College's administration. Additionally, Gross is the conduct committee chair and serves on the College's student conduct hearing board. Gross is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is the summer pool manager in Aurora, Ohio.

Pearson, also part of the new 400 medley relay record, swam on Wooster's 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays at conference. He was a championship final qualifier in three individual events, placing sixth in the 200 butterfly (1:53.04), seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:04.51), and eighth in the 200 individual medley (1:52.33).

The mathematics major examined concussion data in the National Football League for his Independent Study. The two-time Academic All-District® qualifier conducted a statistical analysis to identify common factors in concussion occurrence, wrote predictive models to project the number of weeks a player will miss due to a concussion, and identified similarities between players who receive many concussions throughout their career. Pearson collected data for the College and ran statistical analysis to identify trends in student retention as an Applied Methods and Research Experience (AMRE) associate last summer. Earlier during his studies, Pearson was an accounting intern for STNL Development in Montgomery, Ohio.

Each school with a CSC membership may submit up to four Academic All-District® honorees for men's swimming and diving. Each nominee must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in academic standing, and either compete in four meets or finish in the top eight at a conference championship. The CSC Academic All-America® Team for men's swimming and diving is set to be announced on Wednesday, April 24.
