Scots Kick Off Year at Kenyon Relays
Teams place third in relay-based event
GAMBIER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2024-25 season by competing at the Kenyon College Relays. Both teams placed third out of five teams in the relay-based competition.
The men's team totaled 70 points to finish in third, trailing second-place finisher Case Western Reserve (79) by just nine points. Kenyon finished first in the men's standings with 119 points. The women's squad totaled 68 points to place third, finishing behind Case Western Reserve (85) and Kenyon (119).
On the men's side, four relay teams scored fourth-place finishes. Senior Isaac Shaker, first-year Marek Kaszynski, junior Will Laymon and senior Max Likins placed fourth in the 200 backstroke relay with a time of 1:42.04.
The 200 breaststroke relay team of senior Tucker Andrewjeski, junior Boston Sullivan, senior Parker Robinson and senior Nathan Ferrence touched the wall in 1:53.42, good for a fourth-place finish.
The 200 butterfly squad of sophomore Ethan Neuner, junior Callum Glover, senior Isaac Shaker and Kaszynski scored a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:37.89.
Wooster's 3x500 freestyle team of Shaker, sophomore Philipp Drappatz and Andrewjeski placed fourth in 15:40.77.
Three Wooster squads tallied sixth-place finishes. The 400 medley relay team of Sullivan, Shaker, Andrewjeski and Ferrence recorded a sixth-place finish in 3:51.13. Glover, Neuner, senior Aiden Lentz and Sullvan placed sixth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.90. The trio of junior Will Laubacher, senior Andre Yazhbin and senior Ryan Gross placed sixth in the 3x500 relay in 16:13.02.
For the Scots women's team, the trio of junior Emma Humbert, senior JP Timken and senior Mariam Zayour recorded the top finish for the Fighting Scots. The squad secured a third-place finish in the 3x500 freestyle relay by completing the event in 17:04.38.
Two other Wooster squads scored top-five finishes in the 3x500. The team of sophomore Kate Peck, sophomore Becca Murray and sophomore Rachel Frank finished fourth in 17:24.14 while the trio of sophomore Anna Lundquist, junior Hadley Reckard and junior Bailey Nickols finished fifth in 18:14.23.
Three relay teams added fifth-place finishes. The 200 breaststroke relay team of senior Izzy Bellefleur, senior Vicky Maumbe, first-year Alex Hein and first-year Elizabeth Theobald scored a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:14.48.
In the 200 butterfly relay, the team of senior Ollie Bream, Theobald, Timken and Hein recorded a fifth-place finish by completing the race in 1:51.79. The medley relay squad of Bream, Hein, first-year Savannah Cox and Theobald finished fifth in 4:21.99.
Wooster's 200 mixed medley relay squad of senior Hallie Findlan, Ferrence, Bream and Glover placed third with a time of 1:46.31.
From the diving boards, sophomore Blu Catanzaro was the highest-finishing Scot in the men's three meter contest. Catanzaro finished sixth with a score of 222.55.
In the men's one meter contest, Wooster was led by junior Leo Edmonds-Doberenz's sixth-place finish with a score of 240.45.
In the women's diving contests, senior Cady Eakins was the top finisher for Wooster in both the one meter and three meters. She placed 11th in the one meter with a score of 160.45 and added a 10th place finish in the three meters with 153.50.
The Scots will return to the pool on Nov. 2 competing against Malone and Hillsdale at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
