Wooster's 33-Meet Winning Streak Concludes
Wooster's women topped by Div. II Hillsdale
CANTON, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team's remarkable 33-dual meet winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon by Div. II power Hillsdale College. Wooster's women beat Malone University 175-48 and fell to Hillsdale 121-106, while the men beat Malone 180-33 at C.T. Branin Natatorium. Hillsdale does not sponsor men's swimming and diving as a varsity sport.
Wooster's women's dual winning streak dated back to the 2019-20 season and Saturday marked the program's second dual loss since the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
Senior Ollie Bream and first-year Guin Oliver were Wooster's winners on the women's side. Bream went 4:44.81 to win the 400 individual medley, posting just shy of a four-second win over Hillsdale's Elise Mason. Oliver won the 3-meter diving competition in the collegiate dual-meet debut with 147.20 points.
Elsewhere, Wooster had nine runner-up finishes. Senior JP Timken started the run of those off with a time of 11:13.81 in the 1,000 freestyle. Next, classmate Hallie Findlan was second to the wall in the 50 freestyle, stopping the clock at 25.17. Oliver's first event ended with a runner-up score of 151.20 on the 1-meter diving board. Bream added a runner-up showing in the 200 butterfly at 2:10.82. Later, Findlan returned in the 100 freestyle and took second at 55.14. Sophomore Kate Peck was a late runner-up finisher, posting a time of 5:32.76 in the 500 freestyle. Senior Cady Eakins scored 139.95 points for second on the 3-meter diving board, while first-year Elizabeth Theobald's 2:38.31 in the 200 breaststroke was the runner-up time. Wooster's runner-up placements concluded with junior Keara Wiley, Peck, Timken, and junior Patricia Chen's 3:58.96 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Malone's eight-swimmer men's team was no match for Wooster, which won 12 of the 13 events. Junior Callum Glover and senior Isaac Shaker emerged as triple-winners on the day. Glover kick-started the dual-meet season by teaming with first-year Marek Kaszynski, junior Boston Sullivan, and sophomore Ethan Neuner to win the meet-opening 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.42. Glover's 1:50.61 and 49.68 in the 200 and 100 freestyle, respectively, were the top times. Shaker capped the meet as the anchor on Wooster's winning 400 freestyle relay, where Neuner, junior Will Laubacher, and sophomore Caleb Sun swam the first three legs of Wooster's 3:24.14. Individually, Shaker's 4:21.59 and 2:00.03 were the winning efforts in the 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly, respectively.
Junior Blu Catanzaro doubled up on the diving boards with winning point hauls of 197.75 (1-meter) and 174.70 (3-meter). Sophomore Philipp Drappatz touched first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:40.66), senior Max Likins won the 200 backstroke (2:08.63), senior Ryan Gross' 5:11.83 was the top time in the 500 freestyle, and senior Tucker Andrewjeski went 2:14.23 to win the 200 breaststroke.
Next, Wooster is off to Oberlin College to compete against the Yeomen, Yeowomen, and the University of Mount Union. Start time for the meet on Saturday, November 9 is set for 1 p.m.
