Women Take Wooster Invite for First Time Since 2009
Bream earns “B” cut time in 200 fly; men place third
The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team won the Wooster Invitational for first time since the 2009-10 season, while the men finished third as the three-day meet wrapped up on Saturday.
The women were the clear victors, scoring 1,792.5 points. Ashland University finished second with 1,536 points and PennWest University of Edinboro rounded out the top three with 1,200.5 points.
The men scored 1,600.5 points, falling 16.5 points behind second place Ashland. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the meet with 1,852.5 points.
In addition, it was another day and another win for senior Ollie Bream, taking the 200 fly in 2:04.28. It is an NCAA "B" cut time and .21 seconds better than last year's invited qualifying time for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
Bream won the 200 IM on Friday, the 400 IM and led the 800 free relay team to a win on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Wooster captured a couple more wins, starting in the 1650 freestyle where JP Timken outlasted her competition taking first with a time of 17:43.46. Wooster also claimed the fifth and sixth spots thanks to Kate Peck (18:33.86) and Rachel Frank (18:44.05).
Wooster claimed 10 of the top 11 places in the 100 IM, led by a winning performance from Keara Wiley (1:04.51).
In the 200 breast, Izzy Bellefleur came in third (2:29.11), and Maggie Layne finished fifth (2:31.92).
Hallie Findlan finished fourth in the 100 free (53.23), and Emma Humbert was fifth in the 200 back (2:13.41).
To cap off the night, the women placed third in the 400 free relay (3:40.14) behind the team of Findlan, Wiley, Peck and Bream.
For the men, Will Laubacher swam to second in the 1650 freestyle (16:43.76). His time became the seventh best time in Wooster program history.
Isaac Shaker was third in the 200 fly (1:53.91). In the 200 breast, Tucker Andrewjeski placed third (2:06.57) and Boston Sullivan was fourth (2:06.83).
Will Laymon placed fifth in the 200 back (1:57.42), while Callum Glover was fifth in the 100 free (47.63).
To finish, the men's 400 free relay team swam to a time of 3:12.89 for sixth.
The Scots won't be in action again until Jan. 11 when they host Westminster College and Bluffton University.
