Our "Senior Salute" series continues with Vicky Maumbe from the swimming and diving team. Maumbe is a philosophy major from Morgantown, West Virginia.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because the environment on campus was extremely welcoming and felt like home.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means giving your all and never giving up. It means learning to balance school and athletics is not for the weak.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Traveling to Florida with my team every winter break.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Knowing you are part of a larger community being a student-athlete is comforting. You have a lot of people cheering you on to succeed.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am involved with Younglife. It meets every Tuesday on the second floor of Lowry at 7 p.m.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Karen Haely made the biggest impact on me because she helped find my love for philosophy, which later made me decide to major in that. She also told me as a first-year not to worry about not knowing what I want to do and that everything will work out. It worked out for me.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: APEX helped me set up my LinkedIn account which connected me to some alumni that work in the same field I am interested in. These connections gave me numerous networking opportunities.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am researching which philosophical view on personal identity senior Wooster student-athletes relate to the most when dealing with challenges like retirement.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The training trip with my team to Florida each year
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Stay patient, trust God and everything will be okay.
