Wooster Makes Quick Work of Westminster, 228-56 and 221-54
Fighting Scots win all but one event
WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster swimming and diving team won every event but one in Saturday's rout of Westminster College at Timken Natatorium. Wooster's men ran away from Westminster 228-56, while the women were just as dominant in a 221-54 victory.
Seniors Ollie Bream and Hallie Findlan piled up the first-place honors, winning four events each. They were joined by senior Izzy Bellefleur and junior Keara Wiley on the meet-opening 200 medley relay, which won at 1:57.20. Bream dominated individual events, starting with the 200 butterfly (2:12.85). She went on to win the 100 butterfly (1:00.89) before exiting the meet with the first-place time of 4:49.56 in the 400 individual medley. Findlan was the fastest Fighting Scot on the day, thanks to claiming the 50 freestyle at 25.39. The senior's 55.54 won the 100 freestyle. Findlan led off Wooster's first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:46.23), and was followed by senior JP Timken, sophomore Charlotte Helm, and Wiley.
Bellefleur, Helm, and Timken were all individual winners on Saturday afternoon. Bellefleur swept the breaststroke events, taking the 100-yard race in 1:12.81 and going 2:37.04 in the 200-yard race. Helm's 1:09.21 was the time to beat in the 100 backstroke, while Timken went 11:10.53 to lead the 1,000 freestyle.
Elsewhere, junior Emma Humbert was a two-time individual winner, taking the 200 freestyle (2:04.32), and later, the 200 backstroke (2:19.77). Sophomore Rachel Frank's 5:38.68 won the 500 freestyle, as did first-year Guin Oliver's 124.55 points on the one-meter diving board.
Junior Callum Glover anchored his way to a quadruple-winner showing. Junior Will Laymon, junior Boston Sullivan, and sophomore Ethan Neuner had Glover well-positioned to bring home a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:40.10). In the 200 free relay (1:30.97), Glover's anchor leg followed senior Ryan Gross, Neuner, and junior Will Laubacher. Individually, Glover's 22.25 was the quickest in the 50 freestyle, as was the 49.10 in the 100 freestyle.
Sophomore Philipp Drappatz led Wooster's distance crew, taking the 500 (5:05.83) and 1,000 freestyles (10:35.49). Senior Isaac Shaker did likewise in the butterfly, claiming first-place finishes in the 100- (54.55) and 200-yard (2:02.33) races. Shaker returned for a third first-place time, with the 4:21.17 coming in the 400 individual medley. Laymon followed up the meet-opening 200 medley relay win with the first-place time of 55.37 in the 100 backstroke, while Sullivan earned top billing in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.61.
Gross' 1:50.50 led all entries in the 200 freestyle and senior Tucker Andrewjeski went 2:15.51 to win the 200 breaststroke. Junior Noah McDonald swept the diving events, scoring 179.4 points on the one-meter board and 194.50 on the three-meter board.
