Wooster Overpowers Ohio Wesleyan, 158-45 and 179-60
Bream, Findlan, Glover, Gross triple-winners
DELAWARE, Ohio – The College of Wooster swimming and diving team made quick work of Ohio Wesleyan University, taking Saturday's dual meet 158-45 (men) and 179-60 (women) at Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center.
Wooster, which won all but three events contested, saw senior Ryan Gross earn triple-winner status. Gross anchored Wooster's winning 200 medley (1:38.17) and 200 freestyle relays (1:29.69), while individually, the senior went 5:49.49 to claim the blue ribbon in the 500 freestyle. Gross was aided by junior Will Laymon, junior Boston Sullivan, and sophomore Ethan Neuner in the 200 medley relay, while junior Callum Glover, Sullivan, and junior Will Laubacher were in on the 200 freestyle relay victory.
Glover joined Gross as a three-event winner Saturday. Glover went 1:48.08 in the 200 freestyle and later posted a time of 53.52 in the 100 butterfly. Neuner scored a second win of the meet with a 22.32 in the 50 freestyle.
Elsewhere, sophomore Philipp Drappatz stopped the clock at 10:29.81 to take the 1,000 freestyle, sophomore Chris Caldwell's 154.45 points on the 1-meter board ranked first, senior Aiden Lentz took the 100 backstroke at 56.32, and senior Tucker Andrewjeski was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.84).
On the women's side, seniors Ollie Bream and Hallie Findlan both scored two individual and one relay first-place times. Bream's came in the 100 individual medley (1:02.06), the 100 freestyle (55.57), and as part of the 200 medley relay (1:56.36). Findlan went 25.01 to win the 50 freestyle, 1:02.07 for first in the 100 freestyle, and then capped the day as the anchor of the team's winning 200 freestyle relay (1:44.45). Senior Izzy Bellefleur, first-year Elizabeth Theobald, and junior Keara Wiley followed Bream in the 200 medley relay. Senior JP Timken, junior Patricia Chen, and sophomore Charlotte Helm preceded Findlan's leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
Bellefleur and Theobald both posted individual event wins. Theobald's came in the 100 butterfly (1:01.11), while Bellefleur's was later in the lineup, when the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97) was the focal point.
Junior Emma Humbert dominated freestyle events, winning the 200- (2:04.27) and 500-yard (5:31.96) races. Sophomore Rachel Frank went 11:20.85 to win the 1,000 freestyle and Guin Oliver scored 118.65 points to win the 3-meter diving competition.
Next, Wooster wraps up the dual-meet portion of its season with a 1 p.m. home contest against Ohio Northern University on Saturday, January 25.
