Bream Ties School Record to Lead Scots at Kenyon Final Chance Meets
Senior well positioned for third invite to national championships
GAMBIER, Ohio - Senior Ollie Bream tied the 200 butterfly school record to lead The College of Wooster's contingent at this weekend's final qualifier meets, hosted by Keyon College inside the Steen Aquatic Center.
The senior competed Friday evening in the Kenyon First Chance Invitational and won the 200 butterfly event in a school-record tying 2:02.95, matching Kate Hunt's mark from 2013 and reaching the NCAA 'B' Cut standard.
Wooster's remaining contingent of sophomore Anna Lundquist, first-year Ella Henderson and sophomore Caleb Sun all competed Saturday afternoon in the Last Chance meet.
Lundquist had a pair of collegiate-bests in the final meet of the season as she was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.22 and 16th in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.59. Henderson went 1:15.42 in her first collegiate 100 individual medley event to place 15th and also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke time trial in 1:23.68.
Sun was the lone representative from the men's team and also turned in a pair of collegiate-best efforts. The sophomore's best finish came in the 100 breaststroke time trial in a career-best time of 1:01.20, while the other top time came in the 50 freestyle in a career-best 22.63 seconds. Sun also went 50.44 in the 100 freestyle to finish 25th.
Bream will now wait and see if she will make her third NCAA Div. III Championship appearance, hosted March 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Her 200 butterfly time is the 11th-fastest event time in Div. III at the beginning of Friday's meet. The senior has previously appeared at the championships as a first-year in 2022 and last season, placing 22nd and 21st respectively in her signature event.
