Six members of The College of Wooster track & field team won
events, or tied for first-place, and five of them were in the
field, at Friday night’s Oberlin Open in Oberlin, Ohio. It
was a non-scored meet, consisting of individuals from five area
schools competing for titles.
On the men’s side, the Fighting Scots were highlighted by the
performances of Bryan Albani, Tristan Jordan, and Steve Zumbrun.
Albani was the lone winner on the track for Wooster, as his time of
7.99 in the 55-meter hurdles bested the field, followed by
teammates Dierre Taylor in second (8.12) and Matt Jensen in third
(8.28). Jordan also edged a fellow member of the Black and Old Gold
in the triple jump, as his mark of 42 feet, 2.75 inches was just
ahead of Eric Dyer’s 41 feet, 8.5 inches. Zumbrun led another
1-2 Scot finish in the shot put with his throw of 43 feet, 3.75
inches being slightly ahead of teammate Josh Kime (42 feet, 4
inches).
Wooster’s other first-place finishers in the men’s
competition were Averell Gatton and Jon Mathis, who matched each
other in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, while also
noteworthy, Jordan added a runner-up showing in the lone jump (20
feet, 5.75 inches) and Terry Workman placed third in the 3000
meters (9:14.21).
Katie Dale led the Scot women, capturing the shot put title with a
mark of 37 feet, 4 inches. Jumping standout Kayla Miller was
runner-up in the triple jump (32 feet, 10.5 inches) and tied for
third in the high jump (4 feet, 7.5 inches), while other
third-place efforts came from KateLynn Riley in the 55-meter
hurdles (9.81) and Elizabeth Wardrop in the high jump (4 feet, 7.5
inches).
Wooster’s track season continues next Saturday at the Kenyon
Invitational.
