Junior Bryan Albani raced to a fifth-place finish during the
55-meter hurdles at the All-Ohio Championships, and in the process
lowered his own school record in the event highlighting a busy
weekend for The College of Wooster track & field teams. On
Friday, both squads participated in the unscored Kenyon
Invitational, followed by a select group of Fighting Scots competed
at the All-Ohio meet in Westerville.
Albani’s time of 7.79 nips his own school record by
five-hundreths he established last winter. Another strong
performance was turned in by Eric Dyer and Averell Gatton at the
All-Ohio meet, as Dyer placed fifth overall in the triple jump with
a leap of 43 feet, 1 inch, while Gatton wound up seventh in 41
feet, 1 inch.
In the women’s competition at the All-Ohio Championships,
Wooster had two individual competitors score top-seven finishes, as
Kayla Miller placed third in the triple jump (34 feet, 1.50
inches), and KateLynn Riley stopped the clock in seventh in the
55-meter hurdles (8.97).
On Friday night in Gambier, the Scot men were led by the trio of
Mark DeWine, Rick Workman, and Bryan Loy in the 5,000-meter event,
in which they crossed the line first, second and third with
respective times of 16:14.54, 16:42.86 and 16:43.75. Wooster also
picked up second-place finishes from Robert Flagg in the 55-meter
dash (6.87), Jon Mathis in the high jump (6 feet), Julian Mangano
in the 400-meter run (52.50), and Josh Kime in the shot put (44
feet, 2.50 inches).
Sarah Appleton, Ali Drushal and Suzanne Capehart led the Scot
women inside the Kenyon Athletic Center. Appleton took home the
event title in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 19:34.23,
while Drushal placed third in the 400-meter run (1:05.88), and
Capehart was third in the mile run in 5:28.17.
Both teams will return to the track Friday, taking part in the
Greater Cleveland Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace
College.
