The College of Wooster women’s track and field team
finished third out of nine teams, while the men’s squad
gathered enough points for a sixth-place finish out of nine teams
in their respective fields at Saturday’s annual North Coast
Athletic Conference Relays. The meet was hosted by Denison
University in Granville, Ohio.
The Fighting Scots’ women’s squad scored 60.5 points,
less than 42 off the pace of team champion Ohio Wesleyan
University’s total of 102. Wittenberg University grabbed
second place in the team standings with 70 points, just ahead of
the Scots’ total.
Junior KateLynn Riley led the way, taking home an individual event
victory and a third-place finish. Riley nipped the field in the
55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07, while leaping through the air
for third place with a distance of 15 feet, 0.75 inches in the long
jump.
Other top-four performances came from senior Ali Drushal in a tie
for third in the pole vault (8 feet, 11.75 inches). Kayla Miller
wound up third in the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 10
inches, and also jumped over the bar in the high jump in fourth
place with a height of 4 feet, 9 inches. Additionally, Katie Dale
launched the shot put to a distance of 35 feet, 6.5 inches, good
for fourth place.
On the men’s side, junior Bryan Albani picked up a
second-place showings in the 55-meter hurdles (7.94), while
classmate Eric Dyer leapt to a third-place distance in the triple
jump (42 feet, 8.25 inches) and sixth in the long jump (19 feet,
11.75 inches). Also of note, junior Jon Mathis also recorded a
top-three finish for the Scots, clearing 5 feet, 10.75 inches in
the high jump. In the pole vault competition, junior Robert
McConnell tied for third with a leap of 12 feet, 5.5 inches
Overall, the Wooster men tallied 43 points, while the Ohio Wesleyan
University men won the meet racking up 89.5 points, while Wabash
College finished in second with 62 points.
The Scots will be right back into action on Friday night when they
take part in the Oberlin Invitational.
