Wooster Has Several Noteworthy Finishes at Kenyon Invitational and All-Ohio Championships

<a href= The College of Wooster men's and women's indoor track and field teams were busy this weekend, as it competed in the Kenyon Invitational on Friday, and a handful of others participated in events at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, where Abena Boamah-Acheampong won the women's high jump in her third-consecutive meet.

Boamah-Acheampong led the Fighting Scots at the All-Ohio Championships with her 5 feet 2.25 inch high jump, which although was the same total as the second place finisher's jump in the event, it was completed with one less attempt giving her first place honors. Her finish earned Wooster 10 points, and a tie for 12th place with Denison University in the final team standings. Ohio Wesleyan University won the meet with 81.5 points.

On the men's side, it was Eric Dyer who had the highest individual finish for the Scots, as his 43 feet 3 inch total in the triple jump earned him third place in the field of 14. Bryan Albani nabbed fourth place in the 55 meter hurdles (7.82 seconds), and Josh Kime rounded out Wooster's competitors with his 14th place effort in the shot put (43 feet 5.25 inches). The men scored 11 points, and finished 16th overall, while Ohio Wesleyan (114 points) again ran away with the crown.

On Friday at the Kenyon Invitational, the women were led by Sarah Appleton who placed first in the 5,000 meter run with her time of 19:06.11. Classmate Colleen O'Neil also had success in the event, as she narrowly trailed Appleton and finished second in 19:38.81.

Also claiming an individual win on the women's side was Kelsie Herring in the 1,000 meter run (3:18.61), while Miriam Wise topped 14 others in the long jump (14 feet 11 inches) on her way to second place honors.

The men also faired well in the running portion of the invitational, as Julian Mangano won the 500 meter run in 1:11.16, and Matthew Solter crossed a second later (1:12.71) to take second place in the event. Brothers Terry and Rik Workman took fourth and sixth place in the 5,000 meter run in 16:00.46 and 16:11.64, respectively.

Robert McConnell also took top honors in an event, as he finished first in the pole vault with his 13 foot effort, and Robert Flagg won the long jump (21 feet 1 inch) to give the men three individual winners at the meet. Flagg also placed second in the triple jump (39 feet 1 inch), rounding out a solid individual outing.

Wooster will be back in action next weekend when they head back to Gambier, Ohio for the Kenyon Classic on Feb. 20.
