Indoor Track and Field Season Gets Underway at Denison's Lid-Lifter

<a href= The College of Wooster men's and women's indoor track and field teams got their season started Saturday at Denison University's Lid-Lifter, a non-scoring meet that included athletes from Washington & Jefferson University, Carnegie Mellon University, and North Coast Athletic Conference schools Kenyon College, and host Denison.

The men and women combined to earn three first place finishes on the day, with the men's Bryan Albani and Eric Dyer taking two of the three. Albani defeated three others in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.06, while Dyer won the men's triple jump with his 13.00 meters. Albani also snagged fifth place in the 200 meter dash (24.75) to round out a solid outing.

Also placing among the top three in an event for the men were Julian Mangano who took second place in the 400 meter dash (53.53), and John Mathis claimed third in the high jump (1.78), just one notch of the bar below the first place finisher.

For the women, it was first-year Abena Boamah-Acheampong leading the way, as she placed first among a field of six in the high jump with her 1.53 meter effort. Stephanie McShane also secured a top finish, placing third in the 200 meter dash in 29.14.

Both squads will be back in action next Saturday when the travel to Granville, Ohio for the NCAC Relays at 1 p.m.
