The College of Wooster track and field team had a solid outing at the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University, as the women finished in second, while the men took third-place honors, among the six schools in competition Saturday afternoon.

The women scored 158 points, just short of host Ohio Northern (163), while the men scored 75 points, which was well ahead of Macomb Community College and Bluffton University. Leading Wooster's women was sprint specialist Stephanie McShane, who won both the 55-meter dash (7.71) and 200-meter dash (28.34), with each victory earning the team 10 points.

Others finishing first in an event were Abena Boamah-Acheampong, who matched her effort from last weekend with another 5 feet, 1 inch showing in the high jump. Taylor Morgan won the 500-meter run in 1:27.14, and thrower Veronique Jones got the nod in the shot put with a 33 feet, 8 inch toss.

Also noteworthy for the women, Miriam Wise placed second in the long jump (14 feet, 6 inch), and Erin Plews-Ogan was third in the one-mile run (5:39.78).

The men were led by Josh Kime, who took second in the shot put (44 feet, 1 inch) and fifth in the weight throw (39 feet, 4 inch). In the pole vault event, Jay Marshall took third (11 feet, 11 inch), and upped his performance from last weekend by a foot. David Brew was right behind Marshall with a fourth-place (10 feet, 11 inch) effort in the pole vault, and he also crossed the finish line fifth in the 400-meter dash (55.06).

The Fighting Scots will head to Westerville, Ohio, next Saturday to compete in the All-Ohio Championships at noon.
