Wooster Thinclads Make Mark at Denison's Last Chance Meet

Competing at Denison University's Last Chance Meet on Saturday evening, Josh Kime and Sean Twining won the men's shot put and high jump, respectively, and the women dominated in the 3000 meter run, highlighting The College of Wooster's results at the annual event that gives athletes a final opportunity to qualify for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.

Kime was victorious in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 8 inches, which topped the 12 other competitors, and was almost two feet better than the second place finisher. Twining won the high jump by clearing the bar at 5 feet, 6 inches, and also took fourth-place in the triple jump (37 feet, 1.25 inches).

Also noteworthy was the men's 4 x 200 relay team, which edged out Wittenberg University's group by three hundredths of a second (1:35.93) to take top honors in the event.

The women had their best showing in the 3000 meter run, where Erin Plews-Ogan (11:13.12), Sarah Appleton (11:13.52), Monica Ramstad (11:26.85), and Alyssa Getta (11:27.25) claimed spots one through four in a field of 12.

Other solid outings on the women's side included high jumper Abena Boamah-Acheampong, who tied for second-place in her signature competition (5 feet, 3 inches). Also, four others took third-place in their respective events, with Tricia Hall's coming in the 200 meter dash (27.66), Whitney Rappole in the 400 meter dash (1:05.70), Miriam Wise in the triple jump (31 feet, 10.25 inches), and Veronique Jones in the shot put (33 feet, 5.75 inches).

The NCAC Championships will be held on March 4-5 at Oberlin, Ohio.
