The College of Wooster women's track and field team stole the show at the Kenyon Invitational on Saturday, earning four first-place finishes, with 11 top-3 efforts in all, to set the tone during the non-scoring meet at Gambier, Ohio
The Scots displayed their dominance in the 1500 meters, as Meredith Shaul (4:52.53) and Erin Plews-Ogan (4:56.45) crossed the finish line 1-2 among a field of 20 competitors. In the grueling 5000 meters, Colleen O'Neil took first in 19:40.08, and in the 400 meters, Whitney Rappole earned top honors in 1:08.17.
Abena Boamah-Acheampong appears to be peaking at the right time, as she won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 5 inches, which tied the school record she broke during last year's outdoor season.
Earning second-place finishes were Kelsie Herring in the 800 meters (2:21.76), Katharina Kroll in the javelin throw (97 feet, 4 inches), and Stephanie McShane, who was second in the 100 meter dash (13.13) and third in the 200 meter dash (27.05).
Rounding out the list of top-3 finishers was Miriam Wise in both the long jump (15 feet) and triple jump (32 feet, 3 inches), and Sarah Appleton, who finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:31.4.
On the men's side, the most success came on the previously mentioned 3000 meter steeplechase, where Kevin DeGroot crossed first in 10:00.6 and Morgan Clark came in second in 10:52.9.
Both Ethan Deselem and Sean Twining earned third-place nods in the 200 meter dash (23.52) and long jump (18 feet, 9.5 inches), respectively, while Micah Caunter ran to a fifth-place showing in the 1500 meters (4:16.61).
The Scots will get one last tune-up next Friday at the Denison Invitational, before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships kick off on May 6.
