Scots Combine for 13 Individual Wins in First Home Indoor Meet

At the first-ever varsity athletic event held inside the Scot Center, The College of Wooster men's and women's track & field teams made their official debut on the school's new state-of-the-art facility by hosting Oberlin College in a dual Friday evening as the Fighting Scots kicked off their 2012 season with a tune-up meet.

The individual highlights for Wooster included a pair of double winners on the women's side in sophomore Camille Schwartz and freshman Ellen Sandin. Schwartz was the top competitor in both the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and pole vault (8 feet), while Sandin swept the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches) and the triple jump (33 feet, 4 inches) during her collegiate debut.

On the track, junior Stephanie McShane sprinted her way to a victory in the 60 meters (8.44), sophomore Amy French crossed first in the 60-meter hurdles (10.31), and senior Meredith Shaul won the one-mile run (5:20.88).

In men's action, junior Ethan Deselem, freshman John Lanz, senior Stephen Ferguson, and sophomore Luke Hutchings-Goetz topped their respective fields in the 60 meters (7.59), 300 meters (40.03), 500 meters (1:17.13), and 3000 meters (9:13.65).

Also, sophomore Jay Marshall had a strong debut with a winning pole vault of 11 feet, 11.75 inches, and senior Logan Pry contributed a mark of 34 feet, 9.5 inches in the weight throw.

The Scots will host a North Coast Athletic Conference Quad next Saturday in the second of three-straight home meets to start the year.
