The College of Wooster's men's and women's track and field teams each posted strong results at its own Wooster Invitational, as the women ran away with the team championship, and the men earned a third-place tie, during Friday's meet at a lit-up Carl Munson Track.

The Fighting Scots competed against seven other teams, which included two NCAA Div. II institutions, as well as a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference schools. The women won by scoring 233 points, which was well ahead of second-place Westminster College (139.50) and third-place Div. II Edinboro University (101.50). The men scored 99 points, which tied them with Div. II neighbor Ashland University, and was just two points behind second-place Edinboro (101).

On the women's side, Wooster had several individual winners, including jumpers Abena Boamah-Acheampong and Ellen Sandin, who each were victorious in their signature events. In the high jump, Boamah-Acheampong cleared the bar at 5 feet, 2.25 inches to take top honors, while Sandin bested nine others in the long jump in 17 feet, 7 inches.

Other winners came on the track, where Kelsie Herring crossed the finish line ahead of 16 competitors in the 800 meter run (2:23.04), Jensen Buchanan took the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.84), and Erin Plews-Ogan triumphed in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:40.69).

The Scots did have a handful of additional top-three performances, including Meredith Shaul, who placed second in the 1500 meter run just a hair behind the winner in 5:53.82. Also, Katharina Kroll was second in the javelin throw (117 feet), Amy French took second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.54), Rachelle Herrin (19:48.99) and Erin Andrews-Sharer (20:03.92) garnered second and third in the 5000 meter run, Sandin (33 feet, 10 inches) and Boamah-Acheampong (32 feet, 3.5 inches) were second and third in the triple jump, and Taylor Morgan crossed third in the 800 meter run in 2:27.33.

The men's team picked up wins in two events, including the 4x100 meter relay, where the team of Robert Flagg, John Lanz, Remington Jackson, and Ethan Deselem just edged out Kenyon College's foursome in 44.18. Also winning an event was Ryan Kish in the 400 meter hurdles (59.22).

Other noteworthy finishes came courtesy of Luke Hutchings-Goetz, who placed third among a group of 16 in the 5000 meter run (15:48.33), and Kevin DeGroot, who was second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:23.24.

Next weekend, Wooster will compete at the Oberlin Invitational.
