Wooster Solid at Non-Scoring Kenyon Invitational

Individual winners Abena Boamah-Acheampong and Sarah Appleton headlined nine College of Wooster women's track and field athletes that placed top-3 in their respective events Saturday at the Kenyon College Invitational, a non-scoring meet a Gambier, Ohio.

The Scot women had two of their nine top-3 finishes in the high jump, as Boamah-Acheampong won the event by clearing the bar at 5 feet, 3.75 inches, and Kendra Shehy took third at 4 feet, 11.75 inches.

Appleton, the Scots' other winner, edged out 16 competitors in the 5000 meter run when she crossed the finish line in 19:14.89. Other runners with solid efforts in distance events were Kelsie Herring, who placed second in the 800 meters (2:24.46), and reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Distance Athlete of the Week, Meredith Shaul, who finished third in the 1500 meters in 4:51.92, just over a second behind the winner.

Additional noteworthy performances came courtesy of Kara Johnson, who was second in the 100 meter dash (13.14), Katharina Kroll, who took second in the javelin throw (104 feet, 5.5 inches), Jensen Buchanan, who crossed the finish line third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.07), and Camille Schwartz who cleared 9 feet, 6.25 inches in the pole vault for third-place.

The men's highest-finish was in the pole vault, where Jay Marshall (12 feet, 11.75 inches) was fifth in the event. Five others placed top-8, including Gus Fuguitt in sixth in the 800 meters (2:04.24), Robert Flagg in seventh in the long jump (18 feet, 2.5 inches), Derrick Marshall in seventh in the 5000 meter run (16:32.52), Logan Pry in seventh in the hammer throw (110 feet, 6.25 inches), and Luke Hutchings-Goetz, who crossed eighth in a field of 31 in the 1500 meters (4:11.66).

Next up, the Scots will compete at the Denison Invitational Friday at 3:30 p.m.
