The College of Wooster track & field teams officially kicked off their 2013 seasons, tuning up with a dual meet against Oberlin College Friday evening in the first of five events that the state-of-the-art Scot Center will play host to this winter. The women's competition ended in a rare tie, 77-77, while the Oberlin men prevailed 87-67.

Highlighting the women's results, the Scots finished 1-2-3 in two events. Amy French led the way in the 60-meter hurdles (10.12), followed closely by teammates Hilary Coady (10.55) and Jensen Buchanan (11.32). Two-time national high jump qualifier Abena Boamah-Acheampong got her season off to a strong start, clearing 5 feet, 3.75 inches, and she was complemented by runner-up Kendra Shehy (5 feet, 1.75 inches) and French (4 feet, 9.75 inches).

Also of note, the 4x400 relay consisting of Ashley Huddson, Lauren Buyan, Chelsea Denlinger, and Taylor Morgan beat Oberlin's best with a 4:22.02 time, and Wooster's Jocelyn Lion and Kristina Reck were the only two pole vaulters at the meet, each maxing out at 7 feet, 11.5 inches.

On the men's side, the Scots swept the top-three places in the 500 meters as David Brew came around in first (1:11.24) with Ruku Borah (1:15.53) and Lincoln Plews (1:16.09) right behind.

Brew and Borah, along with John Lanz and Ryan Kish, formed the winning 4x400 meter relay team (3:43.17).

Wooster also performed well in the distance events, witness Kevin DeGroot's victory in the mile run (4:35.37) and Luke Hutchings-Goetz's in the 3000 meters (9:10.80), while Brew made in impact in the field, too, as he tied for first in the pole vault (12 feet, 11.5 inches).

Next Saturday, the Scots will host the NCAC Quad meet, beginning at noon.
