The College of Wooster's women's track and field team placed first or second in seven different events Saturday en route to winning the team championship at the Kenyon Classic, while the Fighting Scot men took fourth-place, at the eight-team meet which was held at the Barrett A. Toan Indoor Track in Gambier, Ohio.

The women scored 105.5 points to edge out Ohio Wesleyan University (102.5) and Penn State Behrend (94) in a tightly-contested race at the top of the team standings.

Two of the Scots' three first-place finishes came in jumping events, as Abena Boamah-Acheampong cleared the bar at 5 feet, 5.75 inches in the high jump, and Jocelyn Lion recorded 32 feet, 5 inches in the triple jump. Fellow jumpers Kendra Shehy and Jensen Buchanan also contributed key points, as Shehy placed third in the high jump (5 feet, 1.75 inches), while Buchanan garnered third in a field of 23 in the long jump (15 feet, 8.75 inches).

Wooster's other victory came on the track, where Amy French, Paris Nahas, Edie Anderson, and Stephanie McShane joined forces to take the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:50.39. The Scots had another strong relay effort in the 4x400, as Ashley Huddson, Anderson, Lion, and Shehy placed second in 4:13.98.

Individually, McShane crossed the finish line second in a field of 26 in the 200 meter dash (27.52), French placed second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.71), and Veronique Jones registered a throw of 34 feet, 9.5 inches in the shot put, which was also good for second-place honors.

The men's competition was won by Penn State Behrend in a runaway (143.5), while Ohio Wesleyan (118) and host Kenyon College (89) were second and third, respectively. Wooster held off several others for fourth-place with 56.5 points.

John Lanz produced the best individual result, as he finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.89. Also on the track, Kevin DeGroot crossed third against 22 others in the 800 meters in 2:01.82, while Derrick Marshall ran his way to third-place in the 5000 meters (16:26.73).

Rounding out those who placed third or higher in an event was Matt Margida, who gave the third-best effort in the shot put with 44 feet, 10.75 inches.

The Scots will host this year's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, beginning next weekend with the heptathlon and pentathlon events, followed by the rest of the traditional events March 1-2.
