Freshman Hilary Coady broke a school record while placing third in the pentathlon to earn The College of Wooster's women's track and field team six points toward its score at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which began this weekend, and will conclude next weekend at the Scot Center in Wooster, Ohio.

Coady totaled a program-best 2,939 points in the pentathlon's five events, which surpassed the score her classmate Amy French recorded at the NCAC's last year (2,707). Coady took third-place honors out of 13 competitors, and was just 10 points behind the second-place finisher.

Her best results came in the shot put (28 feet, 0.25 inches) and 800 meter run (2:30.63), where she was third in each, and she also placed fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 6.75 inches).

French and Jensen Buchanan also competed in the pentathlon, and although they didn't add to Wooster's team score, French placed second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.65) and Buchanan was fifth in the long jump (15 feet, 5 inches).

In the men's heptathlon, David Brew also broke a school record with 3,769 points, although his 10th-place finish came up a bit shy of earning points for the team. Brew's best result came when he crossed the finish line first in the 1000 meters in 2:40.75.
