Matt Margida was the standout thrower at the North Coast Athletic Conference Quad on Saturday, as The College of Wooster junior won an event and set a school record while placing second in another, on his way to NCAC Athlete-of-the-Week honors for men's field, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Competing against student-athletes from Allegheny College and Ohio Wesleyan University (Kenyon College didn't enter into throwing events), Margida was the only thrower to finish among the top-3 in both the shot put and the weight throw.

First, in the shot put, Margida bested 10 others with a toss of 44 feet, 8.75 inches, which was nearly three feet further than his nearest challenger.

Margida also placed second in a field of 11 in the weight throw with a record-setting distance of 46 feet, 2.75 inches. A regular contributor on the football team (offensive line) as well, Margida initially set the program mark in the weight throw last January (42 feet, 9.75 inches), before significantly improving on it Saturday.

Wooster will be competing at home once again this weekend, as it hosts the Fighting Scots Invitational on Saturday inside the Scot Center.
