Wooster Readies for NCAC Championships at Denison Invitational

A solid sprinting contingent, led by three top-two finishes from sophomore Akwia Tilton, headlined The College of Wooster's outing on Friday at the Denison Invitational in Granville, Ohio.

Tilton won the 200 meters in 26.58, over .80 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, while claiming runner-up spots in the 100 (13.13) and long jump (16 feet, 5.75 inches). Sophomore Korri Palmer added a fourth-place time in the 200 at 27.71.

Senior Elizabeth Obi won the triple jump (35 feet, 2.50 inches) and first-year Georgia Hopps-Weber tied for second in the pole vault (10 feet), while first-year Christine Weber earned a runner-up finish in the javelin throw (95 feet, 2 inches).

Junior Julia Higgins added the Fighting Scots' fifth second-place clip of the day with a 1:09.99 in the 400-meter hurdles. Classmate Emani Kelley turned in a 2:24.15 in the 800 – good for fourth – while first-years Zoe Covey (5:14.11) and Emma Busch (11:46.85) crossed the tape in fifth-place in the 1,500 and 3,000, respectively.

On the men's side, junior Jack Petrecca went 6 feet, 4.75 in the high jump en route to a second-place finish, and sophomore Spencer Wilson added another top-three claim with a third-place throw of 145 feet, 6 inches in the discus. Additionally, Wilson also placed eighth in the shot put (41 feet, 7.75 inches).

Sophomore Miki Rae went 4:12.07 in the 1,500 to finish third in a 29-man field and junior Brian Lief placed fifth in the 800 (1:58.55).

Next week, Wooster travels to Meadville, Pa. for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, while select student-athletes will kick off the championships at the two-day NCAC Decathlon/Heptathlon, starting Saturday, April 28 in Oberlin, Ohio.
