Westcott Breaks a Pair of Records as Scots Conclude Week of Last Chance Events

Select student athletes of The College of Wooster track and field teams wrapped up three last chance meets in preparation of the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships May 23-25.

Senior David Westcott highlighted the team's performances with two times that broke school records.

On May 10 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College, Westcott broke the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a third place finish at 9:02.96. At the time is was the fourth-best time in Division III this spring.

Five days later, the senior broke the school record in the 5,000 run in 14:43.14 at the Gregory Final Qualifier again held at North Central.

Staying at the Gregory Final Qualifier, senior Carolyn Webster finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4,328 points. Webster finished atop in the high jump at 5 feet, 5 inches and was second in the long jump at 16 feet, 10 inches as well as the javelin at 112 feet, eight inches.

Brian Lief was 31st in the 1,500 run in a time of 4:13.58.

Retreating back to the Harrison Dillard Twilight on May 10, Webster was third in the long jump in 5.21 meters. Claudia Partridge finished fifth in the high jump (1.55m), and Georgia Hopps-Weber reached 3.17 for ninth in the pole vault.

Akwia Tilton was seventh in the 200 dash (26.35), and William McMichael was eighth in the 400 (50.93). First-year Marian Overfield was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:49.36).
