2020 USTFCCCA Track & Field Academic Awards Release

For the 10th straight year, both The College of Wooster men's and women's track & field teams were among the programs honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic Teams, while juniors-to-be William McMichael and Claudia Partridge were among the All-Academic individuals, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Wooster's women's team sports a remarkable 3.51 cumulative GPA, while the Fighting Scots' men's program checked in with a 3.17. Of note, earlier this week, the North Coast Athletic Conference announced its annual Academic Honor Roll, and 21 of the 27 women's student-athletes who were eligible made that list. The men's track & field program had six honorees on the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.

McMichael, the NCAC's Indoor Athlete of the Year for men's sprints and hurdles events, won the 400 meters at the NCAC Indoor Championships, and in doing so, became the first repeat winner in the event at the conference meet since 2008-09. McMichael's time of 49.75 in the 400 at the NCAC meet broke Eric Rogers' 28-year-old school record (50.01). In addition to his title, McMichael was part of Wooster's runner-up, and record-setting 4x200 relay that crossed at 1:32.15. McMichael's NCAC time ranked 34th in Div. III.

Partridge cleared a collegiate-best 5 feet, 4.5 inches in the high jump at the NCAC Championships, and that mark was good for a fourth-place showing, and a spot in the top-35 nationally. She earned All-NCAC honors as part of Wooster's runner-up 4x200 relay that crossed at 1:47.66 at the league meet.

To qualify for individual honors, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative 3.30 GPA, were accepted to compete in the NCAA Div. III Indoor National Championships, or finished the indoor season among the top 50 (individual events) or top 35 (relays) on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

Teams must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.10 to be eligible.

A total of 359 Div. III teams (209 women, 150 men) and 802 individuals (477 women, 325 men) were honored by the organization.
