The College of Wooster track and field team wrapped up the indoor portion of its 2021 slate on Saturday afternoon against Ohio Wesleyan University inside the Scot Center. The Battling Bishops won 82-52 on the men's side and 72.5-60.5 on the women's side.

First-year Athena Tharenos was a double winner for the Fighting Scots and has now won all three individual events she's competed in while in college. The rookie crossed at 5:35.98 in the mile and returned later in the meet to take the 800 meters at 2:23.47. Junior distance ace Isabelle Hoover took charge in the 3000 meters with the winning time of 10:35.09, a clip that's currently tops in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Of note, Wooster had the top two times in all three events with a first-place finish on the women's side, and junior Kayla Bertholf was a key reason why. The Scots' biochemistry and molecular biology major backed Tharenos up with a 5:37.88 in the mile, and her time of 11:15.32 in the 3000 meters was the second-best clip of the day. Sophomore Haley Bloom had the runner-up time of 2:34.09 in the 800 meters.

Other runner-up finishes on the women's side came from senior Georgia Hopps-Weber in the pole vault (10 feet), junior Morgan Kromer in the 60-meter dash (8.67 seconds), junior Claudia Partridge in the high jump (5 feet, 1.75 inches) and long jump (13 feet, 11.75 inches), first-year Mary Sirois in the 60-meter hurdles (10.69 seconds), junior Maya Vasta in the 400 meters (1:03.16), senior Christine Weber in the shot put (34 feet, 9.5 inches), and the 4x400 relay (4:32.23) consisting of Vasta, first-year Drew Patterson, first-year Issy Tallent, and Tharenos.

On the men's side, sophomore Korey Simmons crossed first at 8.91 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and that clip wasn't far off his school-record time of 8.79 seconds. Classmate Joe Shilts provided a formidable one-two duo for the Scots in the event with the runner-up time of 9.65 seconds.

Wooster's middle-distance and distance crew scored big points for the Scots with junior Alexander DeLong taking the mile at 4:36.98, junior Will McMichael winning the 800 meters at 1:57.15, and first-year Duncan Hardy had the top time of 9:57.67 in the 3000 meters.

First-year Dylan Garretson cleared 14 feet for the second straight week to win the pole vault, while junior Richie Pajak, the reigning NCAC Athlete of the Week for men's field events, cleared 5 feet, 10 inches on his first try to win the high jump.

Junior Nick Scherson was the runner-up in the 400 meters (53.36), while Shilts, senior Matt Olszewski, first-year Kyle Stringer, and Scherson teamed up to post the runner-up time of 3:34.02 in the 4x400 relay.

Next, Wooster transitions to the outdoor track & field season, with action slated to start with the Wooster Invitational on Saturday, March 27.
