Scots Take Part in Quad Meet at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Denison Quad Meet on Friday with the host Big Red, Wittenberg University and Ohio Wesleyan University.

The women finished third of the four teams, scoring 133 points. Denison edged Ohio Wesleyan for first 175-169.

The men scored 89 points for fourth. The Battling Bishops took the men's side with 201 points.

Both teams claimed a pair of winners, while the men took one of the closest finishes of the night.

Junior Will McMichael prevailed in the 800 meters as his time of 1:59.268 topped Wittenberg's Deven Ramsey's time of 1:59.27. The men's other winner came from first-year Dylan Garretson who won the pole vault in 14 feet, 6 inches.

For the women, junior Isabelle Hoover won the 10,000 run in 37:49.15, and that's time's currently No. 5 in Div. III. Maya Vasta went on to win the 100 meter run with a time of 13.19 seconds.

Continuing with the women, senior Christine Weber broke the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 128 feet, 2 inches, while Vasta, Claudia PartridgeZoe Covey and Athena Tharenos finished second in the 4x400 in 4:24.98, just over a second shy of first.

The 4x100 team of Partridge, Vasta, Morgan Kromer and Mary Sirois placed third (52.12). The first-year Sirois finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.24), and fellow first-year Tharenos placed second in the 800 meters in 2:26.93.

In the 400 hurdles, Vasta was second (1:14.64), and Sirios was third (1:15.94), and in the 5000 meter run, senior Emma Busch finished fourth (20:29.62).

Senior Georgia Hopps-Weber cleared 10 feet to finish second in the pole vault. First-year Ainsley Wiesner finished fourth in the triple jump (29 feet, 9.25 inches).

Sophomore Haley Bloom was the top Wooster javelin thrower at 76-10 for seventh. She also finished fourth in the 800 meters (2:35.46).

The top three women reached 5 feet, 1 inch in the high jump. Partridge finished second after needing two attempts to clear the height.

On the men's side, sophomore Luke Henke was second in the javelin with a throw of 122 feet, 5 inches and tied for third in the high jump with junior Richie Pajak (5 feet, 8.75 inches).

Sophomore Nate Andrews finished in second ahead of his two teammates with a high jump of 5 feet, 10.75 inches. Andrews also was fourth in the triple jump (37 feet, 10.75 inches).

Junior Nick Scherson finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 24.05 seconds. First-year Duncan Hardy was fifth in the 5000 (16:55.53), and junior Conor Greene was fifth in the discus throw (106-01).

Next, the Scots will travel to Ohio Wesleyan for the Marv Frye Invitational.
