First-year Dylan Garretson cleared 15 feet in the pole vault, and The College of Wooster track & field team won five events at Saturday's Marv Frye Invitational, which was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Garretson, who came into the day with a North Coast Athletic Conference-leading mark of 14 feet, 6 inches from last week's Denison University Quad Meet, cleared 15 feet on his first try, and that vaulted the newcomer into the top-15 nationally in the event. Garretson was unable to get over 15 feet, 5 inches, the next progression after 15 feet, but had he been able to, he would've broke Tim Sir Louis' 1999 school record, which stands at 15 feet, 4.25 inches.

Junior Kristian Coleman made his 2021 debut on Saturday and won the triple jump at 42 feet, 4 inches, a mark that's currently third in the NCAC. The jumps specialist added a third-place mark of 19 feet, 7 inches in the long jump. Wooster swept the triple jump events, thanks to first-year Drew Patterson, who logged a new collegiate-best at 34 feet, 3.5 inches, a mark that's also currently third within the NCAC. Patterson was the runner-up in the long jump and was third in the high jump at 15 feet, 11 inches and 5 feet, 0.25 inch, respectively.

On the track, junior Maya Vasta, who has the third-fastest 100-meter dash time in the NCAC at 13.19, won the event for the second straight week at 13.28. Junior Alexander DeLong rounded out the winners with a 4:10.96 in the 1,500 meters.

In addition to the five first-place showings, Wooster logged eight runner-up finishes on the day. First-year Athena Tharenos' 2:55.55 in the 800 meters was one of them, and that time wasn't too far off her collegiate-best of 2:24.10. Junior Marian Overfield navigated the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:37.25, while sophomores Korey Simmons and Joe Shilts were the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (16.20) and 400-meter hurdles (58.35), respectively. Sophomore Nate Andrews cleared 6 feet in the high jump to take second-place to round out the individual runner-up showings.

In relays, Wooster had the runner-up in the men's and women's 4x400. On the men's side, Shilts, sophomore Craig Akiri, first-year Zachary Galdo, and junior Nick Scherson crossed at 3:33.86. In the women's race, Vasta, junior Claudia Partridge, senior Zoe Covey, and Tharenos came in at 4:25.57.

Ohio Wesleyan swept the meet with 74 men's points and 70.5 points on the women's side. Allegheny College was next with 51 men's points and 67 women's points. Denison University was third with 48 and 41.5 points on the men's and women's side, respectively. Wooster had 41 men's points and 34 women's points.

Next, Wooster's at Ohio Wesleyan's Twilight Meet on April 15.
