Kidd, Hoover Winners After Day 1 of NCAC Indoors

Isaiah Kidd SPRINGFIELD – First-year Isaiah Kidd and senior Isabelle Hoover were first day winners of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Wittenberg University on Friday.

Both earned All-NCAC honors along with the women's distance medley relay team of Athena TharenosHaley BloomIgna Mendez and Dylan Kretchmar. The four ran a 12:36.56 for second behind Oberlin College's first place time of 12:35.98.

Kidd leapt 22 feet, 1.75 inches for high marks in the long jump. He held off another first year from DePauw University, Carson Watson, who placed second with a jump of 21 feet, six inches.

Hoover ran a 17:47.61 in the 5,000 meters, well ahead of the second-place time of 18:04.11.

As a team, the women enter Saturday's events second of eight teams with 41 points. Oberlin leads the way at 71.

For the men, Wooster sits in fifth with 21 points. DePauw University and Denison University are currently tied at 34.

Elsewhere, first-year Daysia Hargrave, coming off a strong All-NCAC showing in the pentathlon last weekend, claimed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 10.75 inches.

Senior Morgan Kromer also found herself in fourth place but in the pole vault. She reached 10 feet, 11.5 inches. Classmate Grace von Scheliha gave Wooster an additional two points with a seventh-place finish in pole vault (9 feet, 5.75 inches)

In the men's 5,000, first-year Will Callender finished seventh with a time of 15:22.48. The men's distance relay came in sixth for three points behind the team of Drew RobertsonDavis PattersonMitch Ecklund and Ben Nichols (10:38.93).

In preliminary races for Saturday, senior Will McMichael qualified in the 400 meters with the fastest time (49.84). Classmate Nick Scherson will join after finishing in fourth (50.53).

Hargrave qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.16 seconds. Junior Joe Shilts qualified as well for the men with a seventh place showing.

Tharenos finished second in the women's 800 meters to qualify (2:20.44).

Senior Maya Vasta claimed the last spot in the 60-meter dash (8.17). She also ran for fourth (26.70) in the 200 meters.

First-year Bryant Douglas II finished sixth in the men's 200 meters (22.96), and senior Alex DeLong was sixth to qualify for the 800 race (1:58.95).

The second and final day of the meet starts with field events at 10 a.m. Saturday. Track events are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. starting with the women's 4x200.
