Trio Compete at Polar Bear Qualifier

The College of Wooster track and field team took a trio of student-athletes to Ohio Northern University on Saturday to compete in the Polar Bear Qualifier in hopes of improving times and marks for an opportunity in the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Championships next weekend.

In the 60-meter hurdles, first-year Daysia Hargrave finished first in the seven-person field with a winning time of 9.02 seconds. She improved upon her program record breaking time from the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships of 9.08 seconds.

In the high jump, sophomore Drew Patterson went 1.53 meters for fifth. Her high of the year came back on Jan. 15 when she reached 1.62 meters at the Wooster Quad.

Senior Nick Scherson placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 51.49 seconds. He was a tad behind his first-place time of 49.86 seconds, which he achieved at the NCAC Indoor Championships.

Unfortunately, none of those times cracked the top 20 in their respected events to earn a spot in the indoor championships which place March 11-12.
