Garretson Ties for 14th at Div. III Championships

Dylan Garretson College of Wooster track & field Competing with a heavy heart following the passing of pole vault coach Jim Clymer on Monday, The College of Wooster's Dylan Garretson tied for 14th-place in the pole vault in his NCAA Div. III Championships debut on Friday at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Garretson, who was seeded 19th in the event, got right over the opening height of 14 feet, 9 inches. The sophomore, who holds Wooster's record in the event at 15 feet, 8.25 inches, was unable to clear Friday's next progression of 15 feet, 3 inches.

Garretson was the first Fighting Scot on the men's side to compete at the Div. III Championships since alumnus David Westcott did so in the steeplechase at the 2019 outdoor meet.

University of Southern Maine's Ben Drummey won the event at 16 feet, 6.75 inches.

Senior Claudia Partridge is up next. She is competing in the high jump, which takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
