Men and Women Place Third at Wooster Invite

Dylan Kretchmar The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams each placed third in the Wooster Invitational this weekend.

The men scored 123 points as the University of Mount Union and Case Western Reserve University scored 174 to be crowned co-champions. The women scored 129 points as Mount Union scored 215 points to win the event. Case came in second at 187 points.

On Friday, first-year Dylan Kretchmar won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:37.60. Isabelle Hoover took over late to win the 5000 meter race in 17:53.76. Second place came in at 17:54.82.

Hoover improved upon her time in 2019, and now sits second in the program's all-time record book in the 5000.

First-year Emily Spector reached third place in the hammer throw at 115 feet, five inches. The throw was good enough for fifth all-time in the program's record book.

In fact, all three of Wooster's throwers had all-time top ten throws. Natalie Tanner placed fifth on Friday (110 feet, eight inches – ninth all time) and Ainsley Wiesner was seventh (104 feet – tenth all-time).

Wiesner was also second in the javelin at 101 feet, two inches. Drew Patterson was third in the high jump (five feet, 0.5 inches).

For the men on Friday, senior Conor Greene placed fifth in the hammer throw at 132 feet, 10 inches, which is slightly better than his top throw from 2019 (131 feet, two inches).

Senior Troy Baughman was third in the javelin at 135 feet, 11 inches. Junior Luke Henke was third in the high jump (6 feet, 3.25 inches), which was 10th all-time in program history.

On Saturday, Greene placed fourth in the discus (120 feet, one inch).

In the pole vault, Dylan Garretson won by reaching 15 feet. Davis Patterson followed in third with a height of 14 feet.

First-year Isaiah Kidd won the long jump at 22 feet, 0.75 inches.

The team of Nick SchersonKristian ColemanJoe Shilts and Craig Akiri won the 4x100 with a time of 45.18 seconds. Scherson later won the 400 meters with a time of 50.22 seconds.

Shilts finished second in the 400 hurdles in 57.49 seconds.

Alex DeLong was second in the 1500, and his time of 3:56.58 was good for fourth all-time in program history.

The men wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400 (3:53.66) behind the team of Shilts, Scherson, Patterson and Will McMichael.

For the women on Saturday, Morgan Kromer won the pole vault, reaching 10 feet, 6.25 inches.

Daysia Hargrave (16 feet, 3.75 inches) was third in the long jump, while Maia Doescher followed in fourth (15 feet, 10.25 inches).

Doescher, Maya Vasta, Patterson and Hargrave teamed to win the 4x100 in 50.30 seconds.

Hargrave was third in the 100 hurdles at 15.26 seconds. The time was sixth in the all-time record book. Vasta was third in the 400 hurdles at 1:11.43.

The Wooster women won the 4x400 to conclude the event. Vasta, Haley BloomIgna Mendez and Athena Tharenos ran to a time of 4:19.67.

The Scots will travel to Oberlin College next weekend to take part in the Bob Kahn Invitational as well as the All-Ohio Decathlon/Heptathlon.
