Scots Tune Up for NCAC Championships

Drew Patterson The College of Wooster track and field teams tuned up for the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Championships with the non-scoring Big Red Invitational on Friday, hosted by Denison University.

In individual winners, Dylan Garretson continued his success in the pole vault, reaching 15 feet for first place. Sophomore Athena Tharenos went the distance to win the 1500 meters in 4:56.89, and junior Haley Bloom won the 400 meters in 1:02.81.

First-year Isaiah Kidd took two events, winning the long jump (22 feet, 5.75 inches) and the triple jump (41 feet, 6.50 inches.

Drew Patterson came close to winning two events. She won the triple jump (35 feet, 8.75 inches) and was second in the high jump (5 feet, .25 inches).

Classmate Vell Robinson followed behind Kidd in the triple jump, taking second place (40 feet, 8.75 inches).

Senior Kayla Bertholf finished second in the 3000 in 11:10.16, and first-year Emily Munson placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:13.23).

Will Callender was third in the 3,000 (9:02.44). Mitch Ecklund finished fourth in the 800 (1:59.73), and Joe Shilts ran a 56.55 for second in the 400 hurdles.

The men had a number of top five places in field events. Conor Greene was fourth in the discus (124 feet, three inches) and fifth in the hammer (140 feet, five inches).

Senior Jackson Loop was fifth in the shot put (40 feet, 9.5 inches), and Luke Henke placed third in the high jump (5 feet, 11.25 inches).

Ainsley Wiesner finished fifth in the javelin (95 feet, six inches). Grace von Scheliha tied for fifth in the pole vault (nine feet, 6.25 inches), and Claire Mackin was fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.14).

The Scots will compete in the NCAC Decathlon/Heptathlon at Oberlin College this weekend to kickstart the upcoming NCAC Championships May 5-6.
