Hargrave Earns All-NCAC Honors in Heptathlon

Daysia Hargrave, Wooster Track & Field OBERLIN -- Daysia Hargrave duplicated her indoor pentathlon performance to open the North Coast Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend at Oberlin College.

The first-year scored 4,185 points to finish in third place of the heptathlon, claiming All-NCAC honors once again. 

In fact, the top three finishers from the indoors, repeated their rankings this weekend. DePauw senior Erin Pasch prevailed again with 5,041 points, and Oberlin senior Clare Tiedermann was the runner up with 4,331 points.

Wooster's other competitor was senior Maya Vasta who improved upon her eighth place showing in the indoors to move all the way up to fourth. She finished with 3,627 points.

In the men's decathlon, first-year Hayden Jacoby placed eighth with 3,935 points.

Hargrave started the heptathlon by winning the 100m hurdles, besting the heptathlon champion Pasch by .05 seconds at 14.64. Vasta came in at fourth at 16.50.

Hargrave and Vasta finished third and fourth, respectively in the high jump. Hargrave reached five feet, .5 inches, while Vasta hit four feet, nine inches.

In the shot put, Vasta placed second with a throw reaching 29 feet, two inches. Hargrave was fourth at 27 feet, 7.5 inches.

In the 200, Vasta (26.40) was third and Hargrave (27.29) was fourth to wrap up day one.

On day two, Hargrave started by placing third in the long jump (17 feet, 2.75 inches). Vasta placed sixth (14 feet, 1.25 inches).

In the javelin, Hargrave threw 69 feet, 8 inches for second place. Vasta placed fifth (57 feet, 9 inches).

Finally, Hargrave and Vasta was again placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 800. Hargrave ran a 2:39.89, and Vasta was right behind at 2:40.74.

For Jacoby, his notable events came via a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (10 feet, 11.75 inches) and a sixth-place finish in the shot put (30 feet, 4.25 inches)

Before retiring due to an injury on day one, sophomore Davis Patterson placed fourth in the shot put (35 feet, 9.25 inches).

The Scots will take part in the main portion of the NCAC Championships starting Thursday at Oberlin.
