Hargrave, Partridge, Tharenos Earn All-Region Honors

Daysia Hargrave, Claudia Partridge, Athena Tharenos, Wooster track & field USTFCCCA Div. III All-Region Release

Senior Claudia Partridge earned two all-region honors, while sophomore Daysia Hargrave and junior Athena Tharenos joined the three-time national qualifier on the All-Great Lakes Region squad, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday.

Partridge, who capped her Wooster career with six all-region certificates, earned her latest honors in the high jump and heptathlon. She cleared a season-best 5 feet, 5 inches at the Baldwin Wallace University Harrison Dillard Twilight and finished just shy of a fourth berth at nationals in the event. Partridge's 3,395 points in the heptathlon ranked fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference and were a career-best for the fifth-year senior. Partridge had a trio of fourth-place finishes at the conference's outdoor meet, with the others coming in the high jump (5 feet, 0.25 inch) and 4x400 relay (4:04.89).

Hargrave, a five-time all-region performer, returned from an injury at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The sophomore's high level of success returned during championship time, as she captured the conference title in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.00 and was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing at 1:06.68. Hargrave's season-best 100-hurdles time of 14.69 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight vaulted her into an all-region spot and came close to her school-record time of 14.27 from 2022, a time which broke a 40-year-old school record. Hargrave is now a five-time all-conference performer.

Tharenos took down a decade-old school record with an 11:03.59 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAC Championships. The junior captured all-region laurels in the event for the second straight year and upped her career All-NCAC count to nine with the runner-up steeplechase finish and a third-place showing in the 5,000 meters (18:48.28). Tharenos was the All-Ohio champion in the steeplechase, breaking the tape at 11:08.22 and won the event three times this spring. Tharenos' other first-place steeplechase efforts came at a dual meet with Oberlin College (11:16.14) and the Harrison Dillard Twilight (11:07.73).

All-region honors are awarded to student-athletes who finish in the top-five in individual events and top-three in relays within a region.

Coupled with the men's four all-region honors, Wooster has earned 27 regional awards since they resumed with the 2021 outdoor season.
