Scots Look to Lower Marks at Twilight Meet
Jeju wins long jump and Mendez runs PR to highlight Scot performances
BEREA – Select members of The College of Wooster track and field teams competed across divisions in the Harrison Dillard Twilight on Thursday and Friday, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
For the men, first-year King Jeju topped the field of 19 in the long jump, reaching 23 feet, 6.25 inches, which he achieved on his second attempt.
Junior Drew Robertson ran his best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:17.62 to finish seventh. He is about a second shy of his best time that he posted last year (9:16.35).
Cam Ray ran the 400 in 51.82 seconds, just shy of the PR he ran at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships last weekend.
For the women, senior Athena Tharenos finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, running in a time of 11:40.78.
In the discus, sophomore Evie Sanford placed seventh with a throw of 119 feet, six inches. She then threw for 38 feet, 1.5 inches in the shot put.
In the hammer throw, Ainsley Wiesner took some chances in an attempt to up her hammer throw, which ranks 13th in the nation, but fouled each of her attempts.
Daysia Hargrave ran a 14.22 in the prelims of the 100 hurdles but dropped in the finals, finishing seventh at 17.97 seconds.
Junior Igna Mendez ran a personal best time of 2:21.29 in the 800, which gives her the 10th best time in program history in the event.
Finally, senior Drew Patterson had a top-15 finish in the high jump at 5 feet, one inch.
Next, Scots will have one additional attempt to up their best marks at the NCAA Final Qualifier hosted by the University of Mount Union on Thursday.
