Carson Kinney

Carson Kinney, a thrower at Baldwin Wallace University and five-time state qualifier in high school, joined The College of Wooster's track & field staff as an assistant coach in September, 2021. Kinney works closely with the throwers, and he has additional responsibilities in recruiting. He is also the College's assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Since Kinney's arrival, Wooster throwers and multi-event athletes have earned seven All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors and school records have been set in the women's discus, women's hammer, women's weight throw, and men's heptathlon.

Kinney competed for two years on Baldwin Wallace’s team. His top showing in the weight throw came at the Div. III All-Ohio Championships in 2018. There, he placed fifth in the weight throw at 54 feet, 9.25 inches. He also scored in the event at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, taking sixth at 52 feet, 9.25 inches. During the outdoor season, Kinney logged collegiate-bests of 152 feet, 1 inch and 141 feet, 9 inches in the discus and hammer throws, respectively at the 2017 University of Mount Union John Homon Open.

Prior to coming to Wooster, Kinney worked as an assistant head coach and facility manager at Perpetual Fitness in Broadview Hts., Ohio. There, he designed and implemented exercise programs for all age groups, programmed all group exercise classes, and prepared future strength and conditioning programs. He also worked as a rehab specialist at HealthSource of Fairlawn and Empowering Punch as a student after injuries sidelined him as a junior and senior.

Kinney graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s in exercise science from Baldwin Wallace and he furthered his education with a master’s in applied exercise science from Ashland in 2021.
