24-0 Stretch in First Half Lifts Battling Bishops Past Scots 84-67
Ohio Wesleyan held Wooster scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the early portion of the first half, building a 35-8 lead thanks to a 24-0 run during that stretch, and cruised to an 84-67 victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

of Wooster scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the early portion
of the first half, building a 35-8 lead thanks to a 24-0 run during
that stretch, and cruised to an 84-67 victory in North Coast
Athletic Conference play Tuesday night inside Timken Gymnasium.
The two teams traded baskets for the opening 2:24, as both teams
found the shooting touch early. Holding an 11-8 lead, Ohio Wesleyan
(11-9, 7-4 NCAC) proceeded to outscore the Scots (7-12, 5-5 NCAC)
by a 24-0 count, including knocking down all four three-point
attempts during its run, for the 27-point cushion. During that
stretch, the Scots defense helped induce the Gators into eight
consecutive misses from the floor and four turnovers.
Ohio Wesleyan maintained its lead over the remainder of the
opening stanza, but Wooster pulled to within 21 at 49-28 on a
jumper from Kinsey Walker with three seconds left on the clock
before halftime.
During the second half, the Scots cut the lead to 10 (62-52) with
7:44 left, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the next six points in securing
the double-digit victory.
As a team, Wooster connected on 44.3 percent of its field goals
(27-of-61), including 9-of-18 3-pointers (.500), and 55.2 percent
(16-of-29) in the second half. Ohio Wesleyan cooled off in the
second stanza after knocking down 53.1 percent (17-of-32) in the
first 20 minutes, including 10 of its first 12 shots, and finished
at 44.8 percent from the floor (30-of-67), including 11-of-24 from
long distance.
On an individual basis, the Scots got a season-best 14 points from
Taylor Keegan on 5-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the
arc. Kym Wenz notched her fifth double-double of the winter with 10
points and 10 rebounds, in addition to adding to her league-leading
total with three steals. Keshia Butler and Walker each finished
with eight points, while Meredith Wilson tallied seven markers, as
all 10 players that saw action for the Scots found the scoring
column.
For Ohio Wesleyan, four players landed in double figures led by
Pam Quiqney's 24 points to go along with seven assists and six
boards. Kayla Gordon racked up 19 points, pouring in 5-of-9 threes,
along with 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Katie
Hamilton had 18 points and nine boards. Additionally, Tyler Cordell
scored 13 points, tallied six steals and five assists.
The Scots are right back in action Friday evening when they play
host to Oberlin College (4-15, 2-8 NCAC) for a 7:30 tip-off inside
Timken Gymnasium.
